My Name is Pride
in today’s counseling session (of which i have a love/hate relationship with), my counselor read me this poem. as tears welled up my eyes, i could name an example for each and every one of the areas within it. i am processing through this and my homework is to journal my response, but thought i’d at least share this with you. i am definitely on a journey of brokenness that God is walking me through, but i am grateful for the progressive sanctification.
My name is Pride. I am a cheater.
I cheat you of your God-given destiny…
because you demand your own way.
I cheat you of contentment…
because you “deserve better than this.”
I cheat you of knowledge…
because you already know it all.
I cheat of you of healing…
because you’re too full of me to forgive.
I cheat you of holiness…
because you refuse to admit when you’re wrong.
I cheat you of vision…
because you’d rather look in the mirror than out a window.
I cheat you of genuine friendship…
because nobody’s going to know the real you.
I cheat you of love…
because real romance demands sacrifice.
I cheat you of greatness in heaven…
because you refuse to wash another’s feet on earth.
My name is Pride. I am a cheater.

I didn’t know how to comment on the “South Africa 2008” page, but I wanted to learn more about it. I know you are leaving here in a week… My sister, Lauren Stonestreet, is actually going to South Africa in October, and I wanted to go, but there was a change of plans… I did not stop getting signs that I was supposed to go sometime, and when I randomly (I mean really randomly) clicked on your page and saw “South Africa,” I kind of flipped out inside… Was wanting to get some more information about what you are going to be doing. Dang. Yeah, Barb and I are working through some control and pride things too. It sucks, but so good. I’m so glad you had the chance to go to counselling. hooray for our counselling staff, they are amazing.
