Shutting Down My Blog?
Made you look.
While I respect those who have shut down their blogs for a season, I don’t feel as though that is what I am called to do. But I do want to share with you something I will be doing for the next 40 days… beginning March 1.
Now, while I don’t celebrate Lent (I am a former Catholic and have a little bit of Lent baggage), I do believe in taking time to reflect on the blessings that God provides.
And in doing so, I will be participating in the Forty Days of Water campaign by Blood:Water Mission. From March 1-April 9, all I will drink is water.
While I am used to drinking mostly water, here’s the kicker… I will be drinking nothing but TAP water for the next 40 days. Yes, I said tap water. If you know me at all, you know that I very much dislike tap water and I drink an ungodly amount of bottled water on a daily basis.
But for the next 40 days it is goodbye to bottled water and hello to tap water. And each dollar I save on bottled water / diet coke / whatever I usually drink (that isn’t tap water) will go to Blood:Water Mission.
Blood:Water Mission exists to promote clean blood and clean water efforts in Africa, tangibly reducing the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic while addressing the underlying issues of poverty, injustice and oppression. Blood:Water Mission is building clean water wells, supporting medical facilities, and focusing on community and worldview transformation, both here in America and in Africa.
Did you know that $1 provides one year of clean water for an African?
I am predicting that I will save at least $3 a day by drinking only tap water. Which means I am committing to donate at least $120 to Blood:Water Mission when this is all said and done. Giving the gift of life to 120 Africans through clean, fresh water.
Pretty cool, huh?
Over the next 40 days I pray that you will step back and consider what He might be asking of you. Whether it is giving of your time or your finances or both… I ask that you consider giving up something as a sacrifice of praise to Him.
LOL. i thought i would lose another blog read during lent season..
I’m going to have to give up juice I think…
I drink stacks of filtered tap water every day, and usually the only other thing is fruit juice.
Maybe I should just go all out and fast properly for 40 days like I’ve talked about for years. I’d have to consult Diane a bit more deeply on that one 🙂
That is really cool.
I am giving up sweets, the most tempting of all foods for me. I am also picking up something. I’m going to blog daily. It’s never been a very consistent “discipline” and I think it will be good for me to make myself write daily.
So, pinkhairedgirl, can you drink filtered water from a tap?
I wasn’t gonna give up anything. I’m a rebel like that.
I really need to quit drinking Pepsi though. Maybe I’ll do that. Maybe not. Like a said…rebel.
I’m giving up reading your blog.
JUST KIDDING!!!
I’m giving up… crack.
Thanks for posting this. I was thinking about lent and what to give up. I cant’ give up the internet, because I work as a web developer. I never watch TV and hardly ever play video games. But sodas are my vice. So I am giving it all up for the same mission. Thanks!
