the why in tragedy

most of you know the news of what happened wednesday evening:

“Steven Curtis Chapman’s youngest child [adopted Chinese daughter Maria, age 5] died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home.”

i’ve met SCC on a couple of different occasions, but i by no means, know him. however, through his music (“dive” was the camp theme the year of my salvation and my first introduction to Christian music) and through the handful of people i know who have been recipients of his charity’s grants… i feel like i to do. my heart continues to break for this family.

like seriously, what do you do with that kind of news? any way you look at it right now, it is a tragedy and one that we do not understand.

as Christians, we are told to believe that everything happens for a reason. To draw us closer to Himself… in order to learn something… God’s in control… God makes good out of bad… etc. but it is times and circumstances such as this where even i am saying, “why this? why this family?”

have you ever experienced a great tragedy but after some time passed, you were able to see the why?

this is very , very sad . bad things happen to everyone no matter how close to God you are. Job is the best example of this. the closer we are to God the more the devil attacks.

  2. I still don’t see the why in our losses of 3 of our children, but God has allowed us to minister to others who have gone through similar losses. I still don’t understand, but I’m so thankful that J.T., M.J., & Noah’s short lives actually can be used to minister to others.
