Why I love the Amish…

Since you are all so interested, I will share with you exactly why I love the Amish. Some of you probably find this is a very strange thing seeing as I am a graphic designer, photographer and all around high-maintenance kind of gal – definitely NOT Amish.

The Amish remind me of a simpler time in my life. No, I was never Amish myself, but I used to wear a bonnet every so often when I was young (don’t ask me why). Anyway, from age 4 to 10 years old I was living in Minnesota and there was a HUGE Amish community up there. My mom and I would go often and I remember even going there as school trips a couple times. We would churn butter, make ice cream, buy pies and quilts, bonnets, etc. They had accents. They were so sweet to us. The kids were fun to play with. There was a peacefulness and innocence to it all.

So, when I think about the Amish, a lot of nostalgia follows.

Why was I thinking about the Amish when I last posted? Well, a few hours southwest of us in southeast Missouri is an Amish community. We pass it on our way to camp every year and since camp is next week – it got me thinking about them again. I have never stopped to visit or shop. If it weren’t for our time-frame – I totally would. I always hope to see a family in a horse and buggy. Last year I did see them and I got so excited.

Who wants to go with me some time?

Yes, I am a nerd. No need to tell me.

Have a good day.

  2. I’ll go. We have an amish community that i pass by in Iowa when i drive down to Kansas City. I find the horse and buggy very intriguing

  3. If you can figure out how to return from camp with ME, in my van, I LOVE amish country. In Ohio we would go to EAT and food shop.:) I would SOOO be in to having an amish breakfast OR lunch!!! I have to admit, the women always look at me. I NEVER wore a stinkin bonnet!!!!:)

  4. And by the way, I have issues with the horse and buggy deal. Poor horses. Get a moped or whatever!

  5. I love the amish too, I went with my grandma to Intercorse PN, about 10 years ago and I got hooked. Same thing something about their simple life attracts me. I also like to read Beverly Lewis and her Amish fiction stories. Anyways one day los and I will visit and we will find some Amish together. 🙂
